Bio
Self-taught musician based in Berlin, Germany since 2010.
Working with guitars, cello, effect pedals and contact microphones, he initially experimented with sound and noise to explore the origin of vibrations through purely analog means.
Following his early guitar noise experiments, he developed sound pieces using field recordings, analog synthesizers, no-input mixers, and a ReVox B77 tape machine.
With hundreds of shows across Europe and worldwide since 2010, his work is constantly shaped by new environments and spaces. He has performed at numerous performance festivals, art events, and galleries - both as a musician and performance artist - and has been touring as a solo sound artist since 2022.
Additionally, Mathieu Sylvestre has composed soundtracks for visual artists such as Wolfgang Petrick and Saskia Edens (CH) and worked to provide sound design on live shows in collaboration with performance artists such as Frédéric Krauke (DE), NoMass -contemporary dance- (GR), Physical Poets -Butoh- (JP), Non Grata -performance art- (EE) on the Diverse Universe Tour from 2012 to 2019 and music/sound design of the art film Symbiosis (dir. S. Weber – 2024).
Since 2018, he has been active in several collaborative side projects in Berlin with Sonus Eorum (Drone/Noise), Reichenhall (Ambient Noise) and in Switzerland with UncoppenSaw (Spoken word - Tribal Noise).
Since 2024, Mathieu Sylvestre's music has been released on the New York-based label ALREALON.
