MAGNETIC SPACE BUBBLE (aka Sophie Capshaw-Mack) / 'in mirror reflections'
Created by MAGNETIC SPACE BUBBLE using 3D-modeling and manipulated NASA archival footage, 'in mirror reflections' is a cryptic video poem that explores the interplay of time, metaphor, and the unseen forces that mold our universe. Through its mind-bending visuals and cosmic soundscape, the artwork invites viewers to reflect on the mysteries of consciousness that we confront in our daily existence.
MAGNETIC SPACE BUBBLE (aka Sophie Capshaw-Mack) is a neurodivergent new media artist who investigates the nature of consciousness through her creative practice. Based out of Seminole, Florida, she has exhibited her artwork across the United States as well as internationally. MAGNETIC SPACE BUBBLE’s work has been awarded funding from United States Artists, Adams Morgan Business Improvement District, and North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and Durham Arts Council.
She has collaborated and/or exhibited with the following institutions: Columbia University, Chen Zekun Changhe International Art Museum (陈泽鲲长河国际艺术馆), Duke University Forum for Scholars and Publics, Fringe Arts Bath (Bath, UK), New Media Artspace at Baruch College (CUNY), the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Government of Iceland, UART MEDIA FEST (Kyiv, Ukraine), and the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), among others.
Her artwork is informed by environmental ethics and philosophical theories of consciousness. She holds a Master’s in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University, where she was an Environmental Fellow at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). She also holds a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a Burch Fellow and Parr Center for Ethics Fellow.
