Alex Libotte / Almamorphosis – 2024

This short invites viewers on a metalingual journey through the creative process—a mixed-media film that delves into the serendipitous journey of how ideas transform and materialise through the interconnected intuitive play of mind, hands and heart.

As the film unfolds, we embark on a visual exploration of inspiration's enigmatic origins. Drawing from the familiar, we often navigate the landscapes of the known, where ideas are often found in the mundane. We witness the flow and organic growth of an idea as it expands, evolving into a multidimensional entity. Shaping our idea gains momentum, and the resonance of our project reaches a level of vibration from which the new crystallises — a distinct vision emerges.

Alex Libotte is an artist based in Berlin, working primarily in photography and occasionally in film within the fine arts. Alongside his artistic practice, he runs a boutique creative studio, Alma, where he investigates the creative process through hands-on artistic experimentation to deliver innovative solutions to clients. Alex’s photography is often influenced by sculptural forms and graphic shapes, with work that balances the use of both black and white and color. He has a soft spot for analogue medium format, while also embracing all other photographic processes as well as mixed media approaches.

Never one to follow rigid paths, Alex embraces the blurring of boundaries between artistic disciplines and different types of technology. He finds joy in the process of creation, recognizing the special moments of inspiration that emerge from the creative flow of just working. For Alex, both art and life are about enjoying the journey.

Alex draws inspiration from a range of iconic artists, including Salvador Dalí, Man Ray, László Moholy-Nagy, and Fischli and Weiss. More contemporary influences include Lucy McRae and Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs. On the one hand, he has a strong affinity for Surrealism and Magical Realism; on the other, he has always been inspired by the Bauhaus movement, all of which inform the playful and exploratory nature of his work.
